This is "The Hand that Keeps the World Informed," in a detail of the wonderful expressionist frontispiece of The Manual of Linotype Typography. (NY: Mergenthaler Linotype Company, 1923). A search of the copyright records did not reveal a renewal of the copyright on this volume, so I presume that it lapsed into the public domain upon the expiration of its original copyright in 1951. Scanned by the author from the original.

Interestingly, a photographic precursor to this image appeared in 1915 in the Linotype Bulletin. (Vol. XI, No. 6 (January 1915)). It is interesting to compare the two.
