These Notebooks are filed under Thompson maintenance because they deal with the machine's principles of operation at a level appropriate for maintenance, rather than that appropriate for ordinary operation (not that it isn't useful for an operator to understand the machine in full detail, of course).

The power or drive-train of Lanston Monotype Machine Company (that is, American) Thompson Type-Casters. Includes the variable speed drive and the two-speed gearbox with clutch shifter for low and high speed ranges. The treatment is largely schematic.
