Twin Quills Press

1. Overview

1960 - early 2000s. Niles, IL. Les Feller, APA 271.

Acquired from Monsen Typographers matrices of Companion Old Style which may have been engraved by Goudy himself.

Acquired the collection of "antique" revival matrices from Castcraft / Typefounders of Chicago. Most of these matrices later sold to Rich Hopkins' Hill and Dale Private Press and Typefoundry.

The Briar Press entry for Twin Quills Press has a note by Briar Press user "mountainsofmoss" (Adam Hickman Ewing, yeehawindustries.com) to the effect that circa 2005 he, Kevin Bradley, B.J. Alumbaugh (both also of Yee-Haw Industrial Letterpress and Design Co.) and Bryan Baker removed the materials of Twin Quills Press.

12 pt Companion O.S.

A specimen for a complete casting in 12 point of Goudy's [Woman's Home] Companion Old Style. No date, but a copy was sent with a receipt for other type sold in 1983 (see below), so it must have been cast by then. The text of this specimen suggests that the matrices from which it was cast were cut by Goudy himself. They were acquired by Twin Quills from Monsen [not Monson] Typographers. Their disposition is unknown, but Yee-Haw Indistrial Letterpress and Design Company (Adam Hickman Ewing, et. al.) acquired the materials of Twin Quills.

Thanks are due to Sky Shipley of Skyline Type Foundry for preserving this and making it available.
