J. Marcassin, in Essai Typographique (Paris: by the author, 1900) cites Battenberg as having introduced electroformed matrices ("matrices en galvano") to France (p. 7, Google Books PDF 23).
1867. Fonderie Typographique de Battenberg
Fonderie Typographique de Battenberg, Graveur a Paris . (Paris: Wiesener, 1867.) This volume is notable for its elaborate vignettes, ornaments, and fancy types. The title page (which comes at the end of the volume) is especially interesting as it includes not only traditional tools of the typefounder (such as the hand mold) but also photographic and chemical apparatus. This volume has been digitized by Google from the copy of the Universiteit Gent (Université de Gand, Ghent University), Belgium. The icon here links to a local copy of the Google Books digitization.
