The use of the Star Matrix Repair Tool, Part No. Z-77-S (complete), was covered in No. 68 of the series Machinist's Helper .
Machinist's Helper, No. 68
"The STAR Matrix Repair Tool." Machinist's Helper, No. 68. (South Hackensack, NJ: Star Parts, Inc., [n.d.]) Printing code: C-KY-SEM-YL.
The icon at left links to a PDF composed of 600dpi RGB JPEG images. It is 54 Megabytes in size, which is a bit large. But if you take the time to download it, and then print out a copy and put it in the shop with your Star Z-77-S Matrix Repair Tool, it's worth it.
Thanks are due to Greg Fischer ("The Linofish") for preserving this document and making it available.
Not because you need them, but because it took me so long to locate an original to scan and this information should never be so hard to find again, here are my original 1200dpi PNG-format scan:
This is a page from the 1956 Star Parts catalog (itself dated October 1956) which shows the Star Matrix Repair Tool. It does not have the instructional detail of Machinist Helper No. 68, but does show more accessory tools.
The left image below is a lower-resolution (1024 pixel wide) version of the entire catalog page. The right image is a higher-resolution (2048 pixel wide) version of just the drawing. (My scans were done from the original at 600dpi greyscale. These end up being 4532 pixels wide, so the "higher resolution" version of the drawing is just under half-scale.)
Fritz Klinke, of NA Graphics, has put two very nice images of one on his flickr account:

At Skyline Type Foundry
Photographs that I took of the Star Matrix Repair Tool in the collection of Skyline Type Foundry in 2010. Thanks are due to Sky Shipley for permission to take and publish these photographs.
Note: the "A763" visible in the background in some of the photographs has nothing to do with this tool (it is part of a box for the Ludlow tool A-763, which happened to be on the same table).
Ear Punch Dimensions
This is a quick sketch of the dimensions of what would appear to be punch 'D' ("Ear Punch") from the tool at Skyline Type Foundry. It is likely that this punch is a shop-made replacement, not an original.
The icon here links to the drawing made into a PDF (as often this will display better). Here's the same drawing as a PNG: star-matrix-repair-tool-punch-D-ear-punch-dimensions-skyline-probably-shop-made-2048x1509-whitebackground.png.
Here are the versions of the Star "Machinist's Helper" No. 68 that I had online before I was able to scan an original copy. I don't know that they're actually of use anymore, but they're already online, so it's easy to keep them here.
