Studies in Antiquarian Technology and Other Matters

APOLOGY: In October 2022 the web hosting service which then hosted this website was compromised by a malicious attacker. As part of the collateral damage the content of this website was deleted. I have now moved to a new web hosting service and am in the process of restoring the site. This will take some time.

Much of the site is now back online, but some parts of it are missing. I am rebuilding these from my source files, but this process is slower than it might be because it makes it clear to me just how much I want to change (and need to fix). Add this to the many broken links that were present in the old site and things are a bit of a mess.

If you can't find something you knew was here, you may wish to try the "Wayback Machine" of The Internet Archive ( https://archive.org ) to find an archived copy made before 2022-10-17. If they don't have it, you can always contact me directly.

Mathematics

In the future I'd like to cover (physical) mathematical models, linkages, curves, and the use of the compass and straightedge. For the present, I just reprint two interesting texts by Robert C. Yates.

Old Stuff

This collects material from older versions of my websites (mostly early versions of lemur.com) which hasn't yet been integrated into CircuitousRoot. If you're looking for my old essays on Bernard Gitton and the Earl of Meath's water clocks, the Rolling Ball Web, or preliminary studies of Dr. Allen V. Hershey's digital lettering fonts, they're here.
