Driving the Top-Slide Leadscrew
If you strip everything else away, the basic mechanism without which the top-slide won't work is a handle turning a leadscrew. In this design, the handle is rigidly keyed to the top-slide leadscrew. You could remove all of the "dial" mechanism and still run the lathe with just the handle and screw.
The Dual-Dial Cartridge
This is p/n 87476-0, presented as a "black box" without internal detail in the parts book. (It is also the subject of GB patent 1,463,732, but not of some other Gamet dual-dial patents.) Here I'll illustrate the internal operation of a disassembled Dual Dial Cartridge.
